programs for beginners
ukulele lessons
TUESDAY 4:00-5:00 pm
This continuous-entry, beginner class is led by Avram McCagherty. Ukulele is a fun, simple and versatile instrument that everyone can enjoy. The teaching style in this group is immersive and in a group setting (not one-on-on lessons). Seasoned participants can choose to move up to the Ukulelians Performance group, when they feel ready.
We meet Tuesdays from 4-5 pm.
Some instruments and music books are available on loan, and we will prioritize them for those experiencing financial barriers. Supplies are limited and will vary depending on the number of participants at any given time.
If we run out, we recommend purchasing from Long & McQuade or Tapestry Music.

Learn a new band instrument with music director Nick LaRiviere! Some instruments are available to borrow. Those starting from scratch are encouraged to begin in September and progress through the year with their fellow students. Previously experienced musicians are welcome at any time, either to pick up a new instrument or brush up on their skills. Those progressing faster can move up to Skills Bands or one of our other performance groups. Lessons are on Wednesdays from 11:00 – 11:55 am.
skills band
WEDNESDAY 12:00-12:55pm
This group will give Beginner Band graduates a place to continue learning their instrument in the “Standard of Excellence: Book 2″ level. This band is also suitable for someone who wants to get back to playing an instrument they have played in the past. New members are welcome on an ongoing basis. Join them on Wednesdays from 12-12:55 pm.
guitar lessons
SUNDAY 4:00-5:30pm
This program is continuous entry for total beginners right up to upper-intermediate level guitar players. The lessons are facilitated via the “hummingbird method”. The instructor will meet you where you are at with individual attention and instruction within a group atmosphere. There is room for more advanced players to collaborate freely or to work on their skills. Drop-ins are welcome at any time. Come and try it out, see if it’s a fit for you. Bring your own guitar or use one of ours. We have guitars to loan out.
Acoustic, electric, classical, standard or bass guitar: all types of learners are welcome! We meet Sundays from 4:00 to 5:30 pm (except long weekends).
